National Merit Scholarship

Since 1991, over 16% of Believers Academy seniors have participated at some level in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) was established in 1955 as an independent, not-for-profit organization committed to identifying, honoring, and financially supporting academically talented U.S. high school students.  Each year approximately 50,000 high school students out of roughly 1.4 million who take the PSAT (basically, the top 3.5%) are honored in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. Of these 50,000 students, about 34,000 are recognized as Commended Scholars and another 15,000 (essentially the top 1%) as Finalists (out of 16,000 Semifinalists).  National Merit recognition as either a Commended Scholar or a Finalist is widely recognized as an indicator of high academic achievement and both Commended Scholars and Finalists are often awarded significant scholarships up to and including full four-year scholarships.
